Mike will be speaking on the latest code compliance law for San Antonio. This will be very informative and key to how you market your business in the future. Come join us as he shares the legalities of this new ordinance and what could ultimately cost you money in fines and possibly affect your realtor/investment businesses.
Michael Shannon was appointed Director of the Development Services Department (DSD) in May 2017, overseeing the daily operation of more than 400 employees comprising the department’s three divisions: Plan Review, Land Development, and Field Operations. As Director, Mr. Shannon also serves as the Building and Code Official for the City of San Antonio.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Shannon was the Assistant Director of the Field Services Division and the City’s Deputy Building Official, a position held since September 2012. Managing more than 80 building inspectors and approximately 130 code enforcement personnel, this Division ensures minimum building construction codes are met and oversees enforcement the City’s property maintenance code. The Division also incorporates a dedicated team to review and inspect public school district projects as well as the Graffiti Abatement Team.
Mr. Shannon served as a Fire Protection and Development Services Engineer for approximately 10 years. Before joining the City of San Antonio, he worked as a Fire Protection Graduate Engineer with an international fire protection engineering consulting firm.
Mr. Shannon received both a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas in the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering, holds multiple International Code Council national certifications including Certified Building Official, and is a Texas state-licensed Code Enforcement Officer.
